Sapere Aude: Responsible Citizenship
Symbiosis-School of Political Studies in Greece, organised the ‘Sapere Aude: Responsible Citizenship’ seminar, concluding event of the curriculum 2018 under the implementation of the SCE core programme. The Fundamentals of Democracy and Civic Engagement for emerging civic, media and public leaders, and co-organised the event. The Greek School continued the tradition of cooperation and the development of horizontal links within the Association of Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe.Together with 99 participants from the Russian regions and from Europe and Central Asia, the seminar was attended by 17 representatives from the Civic School of Political Studies (Thessaloniki) of the Council of Europe.
The concluding Sapere Aude seminar was organised and held by the School of Civic Education in partnership with the Civic School of Political Studies (Thessaloniki) and served as a forum not only to provide civic education for emerging leaders, but also to pursue a special-purpose of facilitating dialogue between selected Russian and the Western audiences, experts and analysts in view of paving a way for a better understanding between the societies on a number of global issues and common concerns for smoother the West-Russia relations.
Referring to the title of the seminar, the issues of citizenship were presented and considered in the context of the key challenges of our time: the themes of nationalism and historical memory (Geoffrey Hosking (UK), Yutta Scherer (Germany), the Rule of law (Konstantinos Tsitselikis (Greece), Pavel Chikov (Russia), the theory and practice of the authoritarian and democratic nature of a state (Grigory Yudin and Ella Paneyakh (both Russia) and others), the mass media (Kristin Skare Orgeret (Norway), Roman Shleinov (Russia).
